Well, especially the users from the US: I heard that soccer is not really popular in the USA. Does anyone know at all that today there is this soccer game? And does anyone know at all (from the US still) that the world championship is in germany this year?

I know because Scotland is footie daft and this time we failed to qualify, which is unusual, we always qualify then fail to progress.

Lol. Germany will fail there too, so don't worry. We are so bad. I bet we will even lose against USA today.

I had no idea that game was held (how did it go btw/).
Here soccer is not promoted much, not yet, but the world championship in 2002 was a fairly big deal (U.S. made it into the quarter finals I bleieve). It is an ever-more popular sport here, especially in the south, so I think the U.S. is becoming increasingly aware of soccer and it's getting bigger, still not even remotely close to the popularity of other sports such as college basketball, which is the main thing on these days.
Cheers

Germany won 4 - 1,, but the best players of the US-team were mssing so it was easy. And Goblin, I think I have my reason to doubt the German team. Lol

Yes! I'm chuffed it sounds as if the fright they had early on has woken them up, Germany will always be a threat I wouldn't write them off just yet.

Hey C'mon Germany have won the trophy and I still maintain that in 1966, grrr, the ball was not over the line.
So us Scot's sympthise with Germany, because we have suffered from that ever since.

Goblin, this is 40 years ago. Since then I bet they haven'T won anything. They are so bad at the moment with all the arguments about the trainer.

Never give up as a Scot, who has watched and enjoyed the 6 nations Rugby tournament, I listened to the smug english commentators writing off Scotland completely..what happened we beat France 20-16 and England 18-12 to win the Calcutta Cup a big deal in Rugby, it can be done and the Scot's triumphed through sheer self belief, and damned hard work.

Maybe you are right. On the confederations bcub everyone thought Germany would not be good at all and then they were good ... so we'll see.

I'm in the US and, while it isn't huge here, there is a minority of rabid soccer fans. In fact, the US domestic league kicks off this season and I'm going to make the 15 hour drive (haha, I of course won't be driving) to support CHicago.

the USMNT coach, Bruce Arena, has said its his dream to coach in the Prem, do you think that there will be a time when the Premiership would be open to having a US coach? I think if the US team did well in Germany, he could get an offer from a Championship club and then prove himself at that level, but there's too much negative feelings toward the Yanks for him to be hired for a Premiership job.

If you guy's look in the "Sports bar" for "Turkey get six-game Fifa sanction" you'll be able to look at all the details of exactly who was banned and for what as a result of that ill-tempered affair. One player, Swis substitute Stephane Grichting, even needed hospital treatment after recieving a kick to the groin in a post match scuffle in the tunnel.

All in all it sounded like a very unsavoury insident. As I say though, all the details of exactly what happened can be found there.
